George Edward Townley, age 82, of Buchanan, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020 at his residence. Services were held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at McEvoy Funeral Home in Paris with John Dale officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Alan Scobey, Keith Townley, Kirk King, David Boyd, Joseph Scobey and John Boyd. Mr. Townley was born Jan. 2, 1938 in Buchanan, son of the late Gentry Chilton and Mary Elizabeth Easley Townley. He was a former owner and operator of King of Sports in Martin and LBL Cycle World in Paris for many years. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Shelbie Gene King Townley of Buchanan; two daughters, Carolyn (Frank) Oakes and Susan (Alan) Scobey, both of Franklin; four grandchildren, David Boyd, Joseph Scobey, John Boyd and Jackie Scobey; one great-grandchild, Lexi Boyd; one brother, Donald Townley of Buchanan; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
