“Sounds of Christmas” is the theme for the 2019 Kiwanis and City of Martin Christmas Parade to be held Dec. 2, with a rain date of Dec. 3. The annual parade is a highlight of the Light Up Martin event on the same day when food trucks will be in downtown Martin and a concert, attractions for children, and fireworks will add much excitement to the beginning of the Christmas season.
The city will also light the Christmas tree that day.
Santa has already been contacted and has promised to be part of this most special Light Up Martin day and the annual parade.
Judging for the Christmas Parade entries will begin at 5:30 in the UT Martin football stadium parking lot. Line-up is at 6 p.m. and the parade will begin exactly at 7 p.m., proceeding east on University Street, turn left on South Lindell Street, and continue through downtown Martin.
The entry fee is $5 and can be paid prior to the event or at the time of line-up. Entry forms are available at city hall, the C.E. Weldon Public Library, on the Kiwanis Facebook page, and from any Kiwanis member.
Prizes for winning entries will be awarded as follows: non-commercial, first place ($100), second place ($75), and third place ($50); commercial: first ($100), second ($75), and third ($50). Entries will be judged on the following categories: demonstration of parade theme, originality, workmanship, overall appearance, creativity and use of color, use of lights and/or animation, best demonstration of Christmas spirit, most beautiful, participation of enthusiasm of entry workers, and overall attractiveness.
