J.W. Winston

J.W. Winston, 97, of McCrory, Ark., formerly of Reelfoot Lake, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at Woodruff County Health Center in McCrory.
He was born Aug. 24, 1922, to F.E. and Lillie Pearl Eaves, the seventh of seven children, all of who preceded him in death.
He married the love of his life, Kathleen Little Winston, when they were only 15, a union which lasted 79 years, until her death in 2016. They had two sons, Dr. Roy F. Winston and Larry Winston, both surviving.
He was a World War II veteran, a master electrician and worked for the U.S. Air Force in refrigeration and heating and was a postmaster in Grays, Ark., and owned Winston Electric & Appliance for many years.
His favorite job was as a Church of Christ preacher for 65 years — first in Gourdneck, Ark., and then the final 26 years at Lakeview Church of Christ in Samburg. He preached until 2016 and loved talking to people about the Lord.
In the early 1990s, he moved to Reelfoot Lake. He loved to hunt and fish and spent many hours a day doing just that.
He moved to McCrory in 2016, after the death of Kathleen.
In addition to his wife, parents and siblings, he is preceded in death by his oldest grandchild, Roger Winston.
He is survived by his two sons, Dr. Roy Winston (Dorothy) of Hornbeak and Larry Winston (Shirley) of McCrory; four grandchildren, Autumn Garrigus (Clifton), Roy Winston Jr. (Michelle), Tami O’Shields (Barri) and Todd Winston (Erin); eight great-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
