FOR A FRIEND — A huge event is being planned to benefit Darrell Davis, a longtime Obion County sheriff’s deputy and National Guard retiree who suffered a stroke May 26. The benefit on June 15 will begin at 7 p.m. at Jones-Walker Post 4862 Veterans of Foreign Wars on North Clover Street in Union City, with grilled chicken plates to be available for sale starting at 5 p.m. and rib orders available for pickup. Dozens of items have already been donated for an auction, silent auction and raffles. Perusing a few of the items collected so far Monday were (from left) Kyle Kirk, one of Davis’ fellow sheriff’s deputies, and wife Jennie Kirk; Ginger Jones, a longtime friend of Davis; and Chris Cummings, a main organizer of the benefit, as well as a fellow sheriff’s deputy and close friend of Davis, known fondly by the nicknames “Cut” or “Cut Wayne.” The guitar being admired is signed by country music star Vince Gill. To donate items for the benefit, call 446-2997. An account has also been established locally at First Citizens National Bank for anyone who would like to make a monetary donation.
