Sarah Cunningham

Sarah Cunningham was born Aug. 25, 1925, and grew up in Union City. She lived in New York City for more than 50 years and returned to Union City in 2014 where she died Jan. 17, 2019, at the age of 93.
She graduated from Union City High School in 1943 and from Southeastern Missouri State in 1947. Later she received a master’s degree in journalism from Syracuse University and did additional graduate work at Union Theological Seminary in New York City.
She spent her entire working life in church work; first working for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McKenzie and Memphis, then with the Presbyterian Church (USA) in New York City as editor of two church magazines. She later worked with the United Methodist Church in New York City. As a writer/editor, she traveled extensively throughout the world and worked with religious leaders of all faiths.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Zula (Easterwood) Cunningham; one sister, Doris Cunningham Garrett; and two brothers, Marshall Cunningham and William “Bill” Cunningham.
She is survived by three brothers, George Woody Cunningham and his wife, Jessie, of Washington, D.C., Donald Cunningham and his wife, Nina, of Union City; and Daniel Cunningham and his wife, Melinda, of Fresno, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home.
