BIRD’S-EYE VIEW — This image taken with a drone shows the construction work being done on Interstate 69 by Ford Construction, the primary contractor, on the $46.5 million project. This section of Segment 7 is being built over Highway 51 just at the Union City city limits near Walker Tanner Road. Three segments of the federal highway project will be located in Tennessee. They include Segment 7 from Fulton to Dyersburg, Segment 8 from Dyersburg to Millington and Segment 9 from Millington to Hernando, Miss. Tennessee Department of Transportation Region 4 community relations officer Nichole Lawrence told The Messenger this week that current work should be completed by November, with the southern portion being let out for bid next. The southern portion is located south of State Route 21 to U.S. Highway 51 north of Mayberry Road. The third and final section needing to be built to complete the bypass around Union City and paving from the end of the current project through Troy to State Route 183 are scheduled for a letting later this year. The route will utilize a nearly 25-mile stretch of Highway 51 that needs only minimal upgrades to meet interstate standards.
