HELPING OUT — Back in September, Hurricane Florence ripped through North Carolina, and Union City Elementary School students wanted to do something to help out. They collected donated backpacks and school supplies, and those materials are to be shipped to Lumberton (N.C.) this weekend to aid several displaced schools and their students. Among those participating in the project were (clockwise, from front) Riley Nordin, kindergarten; Alanna Davis, second grade; Hudson Reeves, first grade; Randy Huynh, third grade; Jessica Graham, kindergarten teacher; and Alijah Simpson, fourth grade.
