WELCOME BACK — Union City Elementary School teachers (from left) Mindy McClanahan, Katie Tohn and Allison Palmer visited one of their students last week during a special activity where 87 faculty and staff members took to the streets to visit several local neighborhoods ahead of today’s start of classes. The UCES personnel handed out popsicles and school supplies to grinning and appreciative children on a sweltering afternoon. The actions were part of annual “team-building” activities employed by UCES principal Rene Flood and special education/pre-school coordinator Laney Rogers. The community service outreach also promoted togetherness and camaraderie within the faculty. Members of the community donated funds for the treats and 325 bags of school supplies. Buses stopped at East Gate Village, Green Acres Mobile Home Park, Ware Apartments and in other neighborhoods where children came outside to readily accept the goodwill gestures. The UCES faculty was joined by senior representatives of all sports and band members from Union City High School.
