NEW SHERIFF — Obion County sheriff-elect Karl Jackson hugged his dad, John Jackson of Dresden, after being elected to the sheriff’s position with 33 percent of the vote in Thursday’s county general election. Jackson, the Republican candidate, drew 2,465 votes to defeat four other candidates, all of whom are current or former employees of the sheriff’s office. He was surrounded by family and friends at an election night gathering held at McKinnis Lawn Service’s shop in Union City, where supporters spent the evening anxiously awaiting election results. Jackson will officially take office Sept. 1.
