Alfred Howell

Alfred Howell, 88, of Union City passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at Union City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Exchange Street Church of Christ in Union City. Jeff Kenee and Dr. Chris Gooch will officiate. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery near Hornbeak.
Visitation will be held at Exchange Street Church of Christ from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and elders of Bishop Street Church of Christ and the staff of Union City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born May 11, 1929, in New Madrid, Mo., son of the late Luther and Mary (Godfrey) Howell. He married Irene (Pitts) Howell June 3, 1950. She preceded him in death April 1, 2012.
He was the owner and operator of the former Howell’s Refrigeration and had been employed at Everett-Stewart Regional Airport for 30 years, where he served as manager the majority of the time.
He was a former member of Exchange Street Church of Christ, where he had served as an elder and deacon. He was currently a member of Bishop Street Church of Christ, where he had also served as an elder and deacon. He had been a member of the Union Civitan Club, the Union City Kiwanis Club and helped form the Obion County Civil Air Patrol.
He had preached at numerous churches in Obion, Weakley and Lake counties.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Mark Ellegood of Union City; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Teresa Howell of Murfreesboro; one sister, Mary Lee Renfroe of Union City; six grandchildren and their spouses, Stephanie and Kyle Garrett of Norfolk, Neb., Rebekah and Allan Carman of Union City, Nicholas and Mediha Howell and Dustin and Jana Howell, all of Smyrna, Seth and Emily Howell of Franklin and Nathaniel and Sherry Howell of Murfreesboro; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Nichols and Virginia Franklin; and one brother, James Howell.
