Gordon Stewart

Gordon Stewart, 95, of Gulfport, Miss., formerly of Obion County, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Ararat Cumberland Presbyterian Church, near Troy. The Rev. Tony Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the hour of services Sunday at the church.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1922, in Blytheville, Ark., son of the late Murray and Cordy (Chalk) Stewart. He married the former Betty Jean Hall on Aug. 20, 1947. She passed away Nov. 16, 2005.
He was retired as an Air Force Master Sergeant in 1964, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor during World War II.
He and his wife owned and operated Stewart Grocery in Gleason from 1974 until 1985.
He is survived by a daughter, Beth Cox of Union City; two sons, Charles Stewart of Martin and David Stewart of South Carolina; three grandsons and the wives of two, Benjamin and Paige Jorge of Nolensville, Jonathan and Christina Jorge of Troy and Peyton Cox of Orlando, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Oliver Jorge and Layne Jorge.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Mitchum; and a brother, Walter Stewart.
