DRIVER INJURED — A local driver was injured Friday afternoon when his car collided head-on with a tree on South Home Street at East Jackson Street in Union City. Terry B. Caudle, 68, of Union City sustained multiple injuries in a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 3:15 p.m. According to a Union City Police Department report, Caudle was northbound in the 1100 block of South Home Street when, due to unknown circumstances, his 2013 Nissan Altima left the roadway and traveled east into a yard at 1124 South Home St., striking a tree head-on. He was trapped inside the car and was unable to unlock the doors. Firefighters from the Union City Fire Department broke a rear window to gain entry and the injured driver was removed by fire and emergency medical services personnel. Caudle was taken directly from the scene to the helipad at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City and was airlifted to Regional One Health (The Med) in Memphis for treatment of suspected serious injury, police reported. He remains hospitalized. Citations are pending in the crash, according to police.
