Sam Brooks

John Samuel “Sam” Brooks, 80, of Rives passed away at 6:32 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Bro. John Blackwell was to officiate. Burial was to follow in Alamo Cemetery near Rives.
Visitation was held from noon until the hour of services today.
Pallbearers were to be Justin Craig, Matthew Brooks, Ted Barnett, Larry Coleman, Paul Hannings and Bill Wall.
He was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Weakley County, son of the late Charlie Thomas and Verline (Hill) Brooks. He married Doris (Fowlkes) Brooks on June 1, 1956. She survives.
He retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Union City in 1998 after 30 years of service and was a member of Mt. Pelia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
He is also survived by one daughter, Lisa Craig of Rives; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Peggy Brooks and Michael Brooks, all of Rives; two sisters, Aline Yarbrough of California and Louise Roberts of Dyersburg; one brother, C.T. Brooks of Rives; seven grandchildren, Josh Brooks of Memphis, Jeremy Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Andrea Craig and Alexis Craig, all of Rives, Jennifer Brooks of Union City and Justin Craig of Fulton; and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jimmy Craig; one sister, Evelyn McCullar; and two brothers, Arthur Brooks and Paul Brooks.
