Lenore Hampton

Mrs. Francis “Lenore” (Graves) Hampton, 87, of Chicago, formerly of Obion County, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at The Woodlands Assisted Living in Brookfield, Ill.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Union City, with Sam C. Nailing and the Rev. Jimmy Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow in Hornbeak City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.
White-Ranson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born May 5, 1930, in Hornbeak, daughter of the late Ralph and Floy (Williams) Graves.
She graduated from Memphis State University with a B.S. in education at a time when few women attended college.
While in college, she met Andrew “Andy” Hampton from Obion County, the love of her life. They married on Aug. 26, 1952. He died Jan. 9, 2006.
Working as a primary school teacher until her children were born, she then became a homemaker, devoting her time to raising her family and to her church.
She was president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship for years and was known for her humor and love of chocolate ice cream and Fritos™.
She is survived and fondly remembered by her daughters, Anne Hampton and Janice Hampton, both of Chicago; and her son, Paul Hampton of Englewood, Colo.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Andy; a great-grandson, Isaiah; and her sister, Elizabeth Anne Butler.
