LOOKS CAN DECEIVE — Dr. Monty Burks (left), director of Special Projects Faith Based Initiatives with the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and  Sub-stance Abuse Services and a criminal justice adjunct professor at two Tennessee institutes for higher learning, is also a recovering addict. Burks shares his story and offers education on addiction and ways to overcome it to individuals and religious groups in hopes of eliminating the invalidated stigma assigned to individuals battling addiction. After speaking to a full room at Tuesday’s Lunch and Learn, presented by Center Point Business Solutions and the Obion County Prevention Coalition at The Venue at Center Point in Union City, Burks visited with Drew Lester, a regional coordinator with the Tennessee Lifeline Peer Recovery program.
