HARVEST TIME — Rance Barnes Jr. (driving combine) and Walker Barnes (driving tractor), both of Union City, were busy Thursday afternoon harvesting corn from the Baker Farm, owned by Wade Acres, north of Kenton. They are the sons of Rance and Patty Barnes of Union City. Obion County University of Tennessee Extension office director Tim Smith said this morning that farmers are not quite 10 percent into the corn harvest in the county, but so far, early yields are turning out good. There are about 70,000 acres planted in corn in Obion County this year. He said it has been a pretty good growing season and the corn has not been stressed. Obion County is the No. 1 producer of corn in the state.
