TRUCKS COLLIDE

TRUCKS COLLIDE — Union City police and firefighters worked Wednesday at the scene of a two-vehicle crash at North Everett Boulevard and Mount Zion Road, where a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer rig collided at 3:38 p.m. Police said Richard Allen Campbell, 62, of Martin was eastbound on Mount Zion Road in a 1991 Ford pickup and had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Mount Zion and Everett. Meanwhile, a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig driven by Jason Anthony Chapman, 37, of Memphis and owned by JB Hunt Transport Inc. of Oklahoma City was traveling south on Everett (U.S. Highway 51). Campbell was attempting to cross Everett and told police he did not see the semi, pulling into its path and causing the semi to strike the left rear of the pickup truck, according to a Union City Police Department report. Campbell was injured and Chapman was possibly injured, with both drivers transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City’s emergency room. Campbell was charged with failure to yield the right of way and financial responsibility law violation, police reported. Buddy’s Wrecker Service responded to the accident scene to clear the wreckage.
