BIG RIGS CRASH

BIG RIGS CRASH — Both lanes of Highway 51 in the I-69 construction zone, just south of Union City, were closed this morning as debris was cleared from an overnight head-on crash between two tractor-trailer rigs. The wreck occurred about 2 a.m. in the area where traffic is reduced to two lanes divided by a concrete barrier heading into Union City. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a northbound rig driven by Ronald Alcorn, 54, of Sikeston, Mo., struck the concrete barrier with its left front tire, causing the vehicle to veer left through the opening in the barrier and collide head-on with a southbound rig driven by Zachary Vancroft, 45, of Pekin, Ill. Both drivers were injured. After impact, both rigs burned and debris was scattered along the highway.
