DOGS RESCUED

DOGS RESCUED — Volunteers with Animal Rescue Corps, a national animal protection nonprofit organization, worked in conjunction with the Union City Police Department and the Union City Department of Animal Control late Friday night to rescue 33 dogs from a home at 1912 East Main St. in Union City. As a result, property owner Melanie Dawn Allmon, 46, was issued a misdemeanor citation charging her with cruelty to animals. Animal Rescue Corps said the 33 dogs rescued during the operation, dubbed “Operation Desperate Plea,” were found “living in deplorable conditions.” The Union City Department of Animal Control had visited the property earlier in the day Friday after the property owner inquired about getting help feeding her dogs. The discovery of the dogs and the living conditions resulted in Union City Code Enforcement deeming the home uninhabitable and animal control contacting the rescue organization, which responded within hours of receiving the call.
