James Choate

James Alton Choate, 91, of South Fulton died Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Baptist Health of Paducah.
He was a member of South Fulton United Methodist Church, a United States Army veteran and a member of the Water Valley Masonic Lodge No. 756 for over 65 years. Mr. Choate retired from the former Reelfoot Packing Company, he also worked for Bunch Brothers for 20 years, drove a truck for Holland Brothers for 14 years and worked at Shawnee Steam Plant, where he worked on the first contract on Lake Barkley as a crane operator.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia Smith Choate; two daughters, Anne Carol Smith of Coldwater, Miss., and Susan Choate of Newbern; a son, Dan Choate of Fulton; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Eula Floyd Choate; two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the funeral hour.
