Services were set for 11 a.m. today, at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russ Ragovine officiating. Burial was to follow at East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers were to be Matt Chappell, Gordon Fox, Sam Nailling, Cary Nailling, Jerry Cheatham and Billy Cheatham. Honorary pallbearers were to be elders of Union City First Christian Church.
The family requests that memorials be made to the church.
He was born Nov. 23, 1924, in Obion County, son of the late William Evans and Nellie (Ballow) Roper. He married the former Cynda Lou “Cindy” Flippen Feb. 5, 1986. She survives.
He was a graduate of Union City High School and had been a retail sales clerk for the former Shatz Department Store, the former Black & White Store and the former Morgan-Verhine Store, all in Union City. He was a member of Union City First Christian Church.
He is also survived by his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Tracy and David Hammonds of Paducah, Ky.; his grandson, Donnie Franklin Hammonds of Paducah; his stepson, Randy Murray of Paducah; and several cousins, including Larry Wuench of Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by his aunt, Mary Ann Wuench.
